WAFL heads to Kalgoorlie

The footy rich town of Kalgoorlie will host their first WAFL game since 2014, with Subiaco taking on Swan Districts in a round 5 clash, aligning to the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls round, in the lead up to Reconciliation Week. The game comes as a result of the Regional WAFL Fixture Funding Program with major partner Rio Tinto.

Football comes full circle for Borchet as WAFL returns to Kalgoorlie

For Subiaco forward Ryan Borchet, timing has been a blessing and a curse during his WAFL career to date. 

In his first year at League level, he was the unlucky omission from Subiaco’s team heading into the 2018 Grand Final, but claimed a reserves flag in the process.

The Lions have kept their form going after their round 12 bye, defeating Swan Districts by 17 points at Leederville Oval on Sunday May 15.

In their latest test, Subiaco kept the pressure high against the top four Swans, and managed to grind out a hard fought victory.

The WAFL’s State Team will have a heavy influence from Subiaco when the side takes on the SANFL.

Six Lions will feature in the clash on Sunday, where the two sides are set to go head-to-head at 12pm at Optus Stadium.
