Subiaco is off to a hot start to the season, with a second win against East Perth on Sunday afternoon securing the pole position on the ladder in an overall dominant performance.

The Lions controlled the ground for nearly the entire match, keeping the Royals goalless until the third term. Even when East Perth staged a late game comeback in the fourth term, the efforts were quashed and Subi made out with a 28-point margin at the final siren.

“I think the game was won through our ability to grind it out with a four-quarter effort,” said Aimee Schmidt, who was one of Subi’s 6 goalkickers on the day.

“It wasn’t pretty, but everyone committed to the contest.”

Krstel Petrevski had another grand day out with an impressive 27 disposals (making 56 in just 2 games), while Maggie MacLachlan also showcased her efforts all over the ground with a game-high 10 tackles, 3 inside 50 entries and a goal of her own.

“Maggie has really stepped into a new role this year and is making it her own,” Schmidt elaborated.

“And that torp she pulled off was pretty impressive too!”

Recent additions to the roster who shone brightly at Sullivan Logistics Stadium. Paige Sheppard and Lisa Steane, both playing their second WAFLW game after moving from the Sydney Swans’ AFLW side, collected 25 and 20 disposals respectively.

Karry Plummer, who also joined the Lions this season from West Perth, also proved the transfer was worthwhile, dominating the ruck with 23 hitouts for the day.

“The new players have gelled really well, and it’s been great to bring a mix of youth and experience into the team,” Schmidt said.

“Each of them brings different strengths, and they’re all contributing in ways that really benefit the group.”

The Rogers Cup side shared in the success of the senior squad, celebrating a 26-point victory over East Perth a few hours earlier.

Next up, the Lions will take on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon at 2:10pm.
