Futures Head CoachSeason Preview

The Subiaco Futures re-kick off their season this Saturday! Their first game on Saturday 7th was cancelled due to the high temperature. Futures Head Coach John Simmons gave us a look into how their season looks.

How long have you been coaching at Subi?

This year will be my third year as Head coach at Futures. In addition to these three years at Futures I have led the 15’s program which leads into Futures. This has allowed me to build strong connections with as many of teh talented boys coming through Subiaco’s development programs.

John is joined by a skilled group of coaches consisting of: Ben Thomas (Forwards), Craney (Midfield), Bicen (Backs), Josh (Development)

What is the aim of the Futures program?

Our aim for Futures is to Engage these young men, develop them and educate them showing them a higher standard of training, preparation and level of play best preparing them for their next step in their football journey.

What is the pre-season program at Futures?

Our program is is broken down into 4 distinct blocks, pre-xmas, post-xmas, preseason and in-season. This helps the coaches and players focus on key outcomes. Prior to our season the focus have been exposed to a higher level of S+C, skill development and decision making. Leading into the season the players have been exposed to line craft, fast-tracking their development in a range of roles.

What players should we keep an eye on?

This year’s group is one of the most depth I have seen in my time. Singling boys out is very difficult as I would name the entire squad.

What excites you about all the new changes at SFC?

Change can be exciting and Subiaco Football club is an exciting place to be right now. Having Jarrad and new coaching staff and a new football department plus an updated Board, and CEO. These changes excite me as I am passionate about development and improving all facets of a club. New faces and fresh ideas can only build on the amazing foundations we have as a Football club. I am excited to be a part of this.
