Subiaco Wheelchair Team Update

The Telethon weekend at RAC arena saw a venue change for the WA Wheelchair Footy League with the outside tennis courts being utilised for round 7.

Subiaco got off to a slow start this season, but has since powered back after the previous week’s narrow win to Peel Thunder.

Repeat goals by Wayne Arnott, Shane Bell, Jennifer Rennie and Oliver Williams had the Lions in front by 40 Points at the end of the first half and the momentum continued right through to the final siren with a convincing win to Subiaco of 10.9.69 to Peel’s 6.5.41.

During the day of packed footy action the All Abilities Football Association had the privilege of hosting a match between past superstars of our great game, and the upcoming stars of the Wheelchair Superkick program. This included the likes of Ben Cousins, Mark LeCras, Matthew Richardson, Kane Cornes and Campbell Brown, Shane Crawford was guest referee. One of the highlights was the atmosphere generated by the collaborative yet competitive efforts, capped off when Richardson missed an absolute sitter in front of goal on his very first possession.

Wheelchair AFL is an adaptive sport and has plenty of able-bodied players in the league so if you want a proper challenge, come down to Cockburn ARC on Sunday 16th November by 12pm and speak to Captain Ryan Zilioli about having a go. The rules are all similar but it’s played on a basketball court. A handball is considered a kick and a throw is a handball. Too easy!
