Des Penman Lights Up for Ladies

The Subiaco Football Club’s Ladies Program got a significant boost during the week with the installation of new lights at Des Penman Reserve in Nollamara – their new ongoing training base along with the Club’s Talent Programs.

The teams have been shifting between venues in recent years but the installation of 100 lux lights across multiple ovals thanks to the City of Stirling allows both the Women’s and Roger’s Cup teams to base themselves there permanently for the majority of their training sessions.  The Club will also have access to office space above the changerooms which can be used for education, functions and football administration purposes.

“Finding a suitable well-lit training ground has been a huge challenge for our programs – so it is great that we can now base ourselves here and build continuity and more professionalism into our programs.” said Women’s Coach Baker Denneman.

The Lighting Project was joint funded by the City of Stirling and The State Government.

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin was present to launch the lights and was proud to see the lights immediately having a positive impact on the programs, “This investment allows up and coming footballers from our community to see a visible and professional pathway from community football, to the WAFL and the AFL.  We thank the State Government, WA Football and the Subiaco Football Club for helping bring this project to life.”

City of Stirling Director of Community Michael Quirk was instrumental in managing the project in collaboration with the Club and saw the potential of having our WAFL programs based out of the venue, “it is fantastic to see a fully lit Des Penman Reserve in the heart of Nollamara being utilised on an almost daily by a high performance club such as the Subiaco Football Club.  We are really keen to continue working with WA Football and the Subiaco Football Club to promote football in our community.”

Football WA Executive Manager Participation and Programs Chris Bandy mentioned “these lights will significantly help us activate Des Penman Reserve allowing us to run more community football activities in conjunction with Subiaco, so we’d like to congratulate the City of Stirling for this fantastic investment.
